Ever heard of a Stokvel Academy?

Stokvel Academy, who knew it existed

Everyone who lives in the township knows a thing or two about stokvels; but did you know that there is an academy for it?

Located close to the Moroka Police Station, the Stokvel Academy was formed in 2015 by Busi Skenjana.

She turned a Soweto home into a knowledge hub where stokvels and societies can get necessary skills and information to upskill their stokvels. The academy’s motto is “It’s about wealth and wisdom”.

Stokvel Academy is purely for empowering stokvels and societies on wealth creation and building a legacy for their children.

It has trained over 1000 stokvel members on a range of skills such as; entrepreneurial skills, basic financial management, debt management; stokvel administration and investment.

Skenjana is also the founder and owner of BSK Marketing which is a below the line marketing agency that operates within the stokvel society and Stokvel Voice Magazine.

The magazine is a pivotal source of information for the holistic development of women and men in stokvels, covering a variety of topics such as finance, legal, health, home improvement, parenting, and fashion.

“Stokvel Academy’s main role is to contribute to the skills development pool as part of social and economic development in South Africa,” said Skenjana.

“All the different training that we have done for stokvels and societies at Stokvel Academy have been sponsored by our clients” explained Skenjana.

The Stokvel Academy venue can also be hired by stokvels/societies to host their monthly meetings, it accommodates 80 members.
