Maponya gives 100 backpacks to local school

A majority of the learners in the school come from impoverished backgrounds

Maponya Mall Shopping Centre strengthened its links with the local community by donating 100 school bags, lunch boxes and water bottles to Nandi Primary school.

Maponya Mall Manager, Howard Kekana said: “Nandi Primary School is a school primarily catering for children living in the Diepkloof hostel.

Kekana added: “We felt it was our responsibility to help the many children at the school who only survive on one meal a day, provided by the school’s feeding scheme.”

He emphasised, “As Soweto’s landmark, we are dedicated to our Corporate Social Responsibility. Through collaborative efforts between the centre management and tenants, we are able to contribute back to society.”

Maponya Mall wanted to create a more comfortable environment, one that is safe and loving and that the children truly deserve.

Kekana quoted the African proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child. Through combined initiatives, the children have been given the basic equipment to meet their educational needs.

Kekana concluded, “We are honoured to be able to assist our community and will certainly continue protecting and providing for our children as best as we can with the resources we have.”
