Maripa set to open his 2017 campaign in Europe

Evans Maripa is hoping to bring trophies to South Africa in the tournaments set to take place in Europe

South African wheelchair tennis ace, Evans Maripa will open his 2017 campaign with two tournaments in Europe this February. This was confirmed by Wheelchair Tennis South Africa (WTSA).

The player will jet off on Sunday and will kick-off his season at ABN AMRO Tournament, an International Tennis Federation (ITF) level one event from February 14 to18 in Netherlands.

The 26-year-old will move on to the USN Bolton Arena, an ITF level two tournament
to be staged in Bolton, Great Britain from February 21 to 25.

“I can’t wait to return to Europe. “I played some of my best tennis to beat world number eight Takashi Sanada of Japan to reach the ABN AMRO tournament quarter-finals last year, and enjoyed playing among the top ten players in the world,” said Maripa.

Maripa impressed last year in Rotterdam and will return to improve upon his quarter-final appearance. He caused a major upset win over Sanada in his debut in the tournament following a wild card entry awarded by tournament director, Esther Vergeer, completing the roster of participants for the top flight world tournament.

Maripa will also be hoping for the top prize finish this year in Britain after finishing as runners-up with doubles partner Tom Egberink from the Netherlands at USN Bolton Arena last year.
