59-year-old taxi driver hijacked at gun point in Diepkloof

Taxi driver heard the cock of the gun behind him and knew that something was up.

A 59-year-old taxi driver from Diepkloof Zone Five was robbed at gunpoint by unknown suspects who fled in his taxi with a cellphone and an amount of R360.

The victim picked up passengers at the Bree Street Taxi Rank and was transporting them to Diepkloof.

According to Captain Phephi Matlou, spokesperson for Diepkloof Police Station, the driver was about to drop off the last three passengers next to Extreme Park around 9pm – when he heard a behind him.

“The suspects drove with him towards South Gate where they left him.

“They then drove towards the Golden Highway.

“The armed suspect was the one who did the driving and the taxi was driven towards Orange Farm,” said Matlou.

The victim was not injured and received a lift to the police station where a case was opened.

Investigation is underway.
