Conversational style creates intimate atmosphere

Audiences will be rolling in their seats

Renowned Eldorado Park comedian, Dillan Oliphant‘s delivery will have audiences rolling on the floor with laughter from 3 to 5 February at the Jabulani Theatre in Soweto.

The funnyman burst onto the comedy scene in 2010 at Parkers Comedy and Jive Club, which was the only dedicated comedy club in Africa at the time.

Stand-up comedy has since been welcomed by South African comedy lovers and South Africa now boasts 3 top comedy clubs, two in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town.

Oliphant credits his success as a stand-up comedian to his ability to evolve and his trademark one-liners which creates an intimate, conversational setting for audiences. His material touches matters close to his heart such as drug abuse which he said he almost obsesses over.

He said: “I am constantly evolving and going through different phases in my life and this means that my material is based on these changes and allows me to deliver fresh content.”

When asked who his three favourite South African comedians are, he said, “Trevor Noah‘s doing great things in America, and Loyiso Gola is an amazing comedian.”

Of Eugene Khoza, Oliphant said: “Without a doubt, the funniest person I know, on and offstage. Being on tour with him is riotous, he has an amazing energy and just keeps going.”

His advice to up and coming comics is to avoid imitating others, do what you find funny and most importantly, avoid drugs and alcohol like the plague.”

You can catch Oliphant and other notable comedians at the Jabulani Theatre Soweto 7pm to 9pm on February 3 and from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on February 4 and 5.Tickets are available at the
