Plucky Eldos guitarist dreams of opening music school

Music has always been an inspiration for self-taught Helen Absolom

Helen Absolom drew inspiration from her father’s love of music and vividly recalls how drawn she was to the guitar.

So much so that, after being sent to attend boarding school in the country, she would play on a ruler over which she had strung elastic bands.

A Sunday school teacher saw the intensity with which she practiced and gifted her a guitar which she would learn through playing by ear.

Absolom says that worship songs have always been a firm favourite and feature prominently in her extensive list of self-composed worship songs.

Music has always been an inspiration and she forged ahead, despite facing numerous stumbling blocks, to form a ladies choir whilst at boarding school. She recalls how well received they were as they performed at conferences, concerts, and schools.

“After returning to Johannesburg, I accepted the Christian faith and my reward has been in being able to share the gift of music.”

She already has one album under her belt, titled ‘Declaration of my faith’, with a second album in the works. Absolom plans on opening a music school in Eldorado Park which teaches drums, guitar, and piano for a start and welcomes all age groups.

This artist has performed at Vilakazi Street, a popular destination spot for tourists who visit our shores and can be booked for weddings, church conferences and other notable events on 061 248 3968 or 060 411 2361.
