Bana Pele for Senaone learners

Destitute learners start the month of January on a positive note with fresh new uniforms from the Department of Social Development.

On the last day of the month, the cloudy weather didn’t falter the smiles on the Senaone Secondary School learners after receiving their new uniforms and school shoes.

The Gauteng Provincial Government distributed the uniforms and divinity packs to learners that come from disadvantaged backgrounds after grievances sent from the school.

“I chose this school as one of the schools that we will visit, so we are here to check if the school has been ready from day 1 of opening in terms of the environment,” said Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza.

42 learners received the uniforms and the divinity packs from the MEC.

The aim was to create a conducive learning environment part of Gauteng’s Bana Pele Program which is foreseeing at creating a province fit for children.

The initiative is part of the provincial government’s commitment to providing universal access to quality education in Gauteng.

Principal Zakhele Khoza said: “We forwarded our challenges with regards to our destitute children in terms of uniform we got a response to say they are going to come this year to distribute those.”

The learners rejoiced and sang worship songs as some of the learners who received uniform got the chance to try on their new uniform to show what it looks like.

Khoza advises other schools have a database in order and to profile their learners so their database can be correct so their learners can be considered as Senaone Secondary School learners did.
