Youth Desk introduces scholar patrol at Luyolo Primary School.

The Naledi Youth Crime prevention Desk and the Local Drug Action Campaign with the Department of Community Safety launched their ‘Back to School’ road safety campaign at Luyolo Primary School.

The initiative launched last week Friday is aimed at reducing the occurrence of accidents between Emndeni Library and Minchies Shops. The ultimate aim of the initiative is to establish a scholar patrol unit at the school in order to improve road safety for the children. “We were basically scholar patrollers in this initiative because we were helping the children cross the road, but this comes in handy as the children got an opportunity to experience what they will be doing as scholar patrollers. “Right now we are in the process of finalising a few things and after that, pupils will be chosen to get training as a scholar patroller.

“Once that happens, we will have two individuals from our team who will be deployed to assist the pupils,” said Nhlanhla Sithole from the Naledi Youth Crime Prevention Desk.
