Cops clamping down on crime in Eldos

2 arrested for hijacking, 6 for drug possession

Two men aged 26 and 36 were arrested by the Flying Squad  and Eldorado Park police for the theft and possession of a white Hyundai Elantra on November 24 at 11am.

Their joyride would be short-lived as a relative of the victim witnessed them driving the vehicle from Turffontein in the Booysens area and alerted police. One of the men was driving a VW Polo Vivo and the Flying Squad pursued the suspects who drove to Eldorado Park.

A chase ensued and the Eldorado Park police and the Flying Squad arrested the men in a co-ordinated strike. Stolen items belonging to the victim included a laptop, camp chairs, a radio and a bag, were found in the VW Polo Vivo.

Both vehicles were taken to the South African Police Services (https://www.saps.gov.za/) storage camp while the men were detained at the Eldorado Park police station.

In unrelated news, police on patrol arrested 6 men between the ages of 20 to 30 for possession of various drugs including Mandrax, crystal meth and dagga, with an estimated street value of R6000.

The arrest followed a stop and search campaign by police on November 22 in Extension One, Kersiedorp and Extension Eight. This latest arrest highlights the brazenness with which drug peddlers operate and police are on a mission to close these markets with the co-operation of residents and Non-Governmental Organisations who are key stakeholders in curbing crime in Eldorado Park.
