Remembering the fallen

Honouring those who died in the line of duty.

Members of the United Chaplains State of New York South Africa Chapter held a commemorative event in honour of those who died in the line of duty.

The event was held at the Hector Pietersen Memorial in Orlando West on Friday last week. It was graced by the presence of priests from the United States of America and parts of the African continent who were in the country for a conference.

“Today we have come to this memorial site to pledge our solidarity with the class of 1976 and all those who were involved in the tragic event that many young ones laid their lives for the betterment of our education,” said bishop Owen McGregor who is the United Chaplain’s chairperson in this country.

Throughout the world, the month of November is dedicated to the remembrance of all those who lost their lives while in the line of duty.

McGregor praised all the heroes and heroines who dedicate their lives to the betterment of others.

He said, “These men and woman sacrificed their lives for a bigger cause. We thank god that we can remember them especially for the sacrifices they made and the role they played in the struggle for freedom and peace.”

A message conveyed throughout the commemoration event was urging South Africans and others across the world to stop the senseless killing of law enforcement officers.
The event was concluded with the laying of the wreath at the memorial site in honour of all those who died in the line of duty.
