Seniors win gold at Golden Games, Eldos

Sports day to be held on November 29

Eldorado Park Senior Citizens Active Ageing members represented Gauteng at the national sporting Golden Games for the elderly held in Polokwane on September 2. They held their own and represented the province and Eldorado Park by accomplishing gold in the various events held at the competition.

Edna Harvey (66) scooped gold in the 500 m brisk walk while Sabrina Paul (72) took second place in the 100 m sprint. It was a clean sweep for Ronnie Kroats in the wheelchair event as the competition did not show up. This was a very proud moment for Gauteng and an especially proud one for Eldorado Park as our seniors represented the community on the national stage and came up trumps.

They are calling on all seniors to join them for a sports day on November 26 to be held at the stadium in Cumming Road. All over 50’s are asked to support the event as there will be no cover charge. Alcohol will be strictly forbidden and attendees are requested to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

The group’s spokesperson, Edna Harvey, said, “All thanks to Spar Extension Nine and the taxi association for providing transport to the swimming pool in Extension Nine. Mitch from the Extension Eight Swimming Pool teaches all grannies to swim, we are so grateful to Mitch as some of us can now swim.”
