20 children hospitalised following suspected poisoning, Johannesburg South

Children complained of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting.

The Hills Primary School in the south of Johannesburg was teeming with activity this morning as a number of ER24 vehicles were dispatched to the school.

It transpired that 20 learners at the school required immediate medical treatment following complaints of abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting.

The patients were treated on the scene and subsequently transferred to South Rand and Baragwanath Hospitals for further treatment.

According to the children, they had accepted sweets from an unknown man the day before when asked whether they had ingested any foreign foods.

The matter is under investigation by local authorities and ER24 paramedics have issued a stern warning to parents not to accept any sweets or gifts from strangers.
