The Soweto K9 unit  and Eldorado Park  police cooperated in a joint operation which resulted in the recovery of two vehicles. The Soweto K9 unit followed the tracker to Eldorado Park Extension Seven and received back-up from the Eldorado Park police.
Soweto K9 unit members fired shots at the vehicles and fortunately no one was injured during the shoot-out. Two men fled the scene on foot, abandoning a VW Polo on the scene.
A 25 year old man, who was identified as the driver of a Mercedes-Benz reported stolen at Sophiatown, was arrested. The vehicle had been fitted with a false registration number and a stolen engine. A case of possession of stolen motor vehicle was reported at the Eldorado Park police station and the man taken into custody.
Tools used in the commission of the crime were found in the Mercedes-Benz, along with jamming devices. Both vehicles were taken to the South African police Services storage camp in Lenasia until the investigation is concluded.
The arrested man is expected to appear in court as soon as possible.
