LDAC plans to launch 16 Days of Activism, Eldos

3 key areas identified!

The Eldorado Park Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) met on October 27 to chart the course for the upcoming 16 Days of Activism campaign.Using the hashtag ‘count me in’, the campaign aims to raise awareness about violence against women and children and seeks to get the community involved in redressing these issues.

This year’s theme is ‘Count me in: Together moving a non-violent South Africa forward’ and this year’s campaign in Eldorado Park is aimed at taking the necessary services to victims in areas with alarmingly high incidences of violence against women and children.

The areas identified are Extension One, Kersiedorp and Extension Eight. According to police reports, these are the areas where domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse and child neglect are rife, and taking key services to the vulnerable and highly affected within these areas will go a long way towards alleviating these issues.

The approach suggested by the team plans to have as a tangible outcome, critical services available to victims, and the compilation of a database to identify victims and the provision of services to those in need.

The South African Police Services, the Victim Empowerment Centre and various other stakeholders will be out in support of this drive and victims are urged to visit the areas to obtain assistance.

LDAC chairperson Cheryl Pillay can be viewed in the video below providing more information about the campaign.
