Busted for stealing petrol

There have been four cases of theft of petrol in the area of Protea Glen.

Two men were arrested for theft of petrol by the Protea Glen SAPS and the Gauteng Flying Squad in Mapetla late last week.

The police detectives were performing their investigation duties when they spotted an orange BMW with two suspects, the vehicle had been identified as one that had been involved in four cases of theft of petrol in Protea Glen.

The detectives quickly called for back-up from the Gauteng Flying Squad and they stopped the vehicle.

Prior the arrest, the suspects had been allegedly using the BMW vehicle for several months stealing petrol.

“The suspects were allegedly using the BMW vehicle to pour petrol at filling stations and would speed off without paying.

They stole petrol from Shell filling station, BP Filling station, and Sasol Filling station all in Protea Glen and the Shell filling station in Protea Gardens Mall,” said Constable Vincent Mashiteng communication officer at Protea Glen SAPS.

This theft has been occurring since August until October.

The suspects were arrested on the spot and charged with the abovementioned crime.

On the day of the arrest, the vehicle was confiscated as it was used in the commission of an offense.

It was found to have been fitted with police blue lights and an investigation is underway to link the suspects 29 and 44-year-old suspects with other crimes.

They will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court this week.
