147 arrested for various crimes over the weekend

Police take a hold of the front line in the fight against crime

Police officers who belong to the Soweto East Cluster were out in full force this past weekend fighting crime.

Their fight resulted in the arrest of 147 people suspected of committing a variety of crimes in Kliptown, Orlando and Diepkloof.

Offences committed range from house robberies, murder, Rape, possession of hijacked motor vehicles to railway crossing and dealing with liquor without a licence.

“Amongst the arrested was a 27-year-old man who was nabbed for murder. The man is suspected of shooting and killing another man in Diepkloof in 2014.

“A police investigation finally led to his arrest when he was found in Orange Farm this past weekend,” said police spokesperson captain Hitler Ngwenya.

All the arrested suspects will be appearing in different courts which are Lenasia, Protea and Kliptown.

Soweto East Cluster commander, Major General Annah Rampota has applauded the hard work and commitment displayed by police officers in their fight against crime.
