JMPD has issued a stern warning to the owners of private vehicles not to fit them with blue lights. According to Minnaar, private security vehicles, in particular, are discouraged from utilising these lights on their vehicles.

Minnaar said, “The use of blue lights on a security vehicle is in contravention of regulation 176 of the National Road Traffic Act and fitting these constitutes impersonation of JMPD officers.”

“JMPD will arrest and prosecute any private security guards found to be contravening this law.”
