New electrical pipes to be installed in Westside

Two men tried to extort contractors from working in Fuel Road.

Ubunthu Electrical and Civil have partnered with City Power to install and upgrade the current power and electrical system in Westside.

This entails digging deep holes in some streets and installing 4x300mm MV cables that are aluminum according to project manager for the company Aaron Zimwayi.

“The reason for the upgrade of pipes is to resolve all power problems in the area and the main reason for the change from copper to aluminum is because of the value in scrap material,” said Zimwayi.

However, the contractors were confronted by two men (who cannot be named for security reasons), who prevented them from working in Fuel Road.

Zimwayi said that they wanted money but he refused to give them the money they demanded.

“We are just doing the work that we were hired to do and we have also hired a lot of people from Westbury so we do not know why they are doing this to us,” said Zimwayi.

Streets that will be affected are Florida Avenue, Hay Avenue, Fuel Road, Grange Street in Hursthill, Kretzshmar Avenue, Dowling Avenue and Steytler Avenue.
