One man killed, 14 injured on corner Main Reef Road

“Man was found lying lifeless inside the taxi”

One man has been killed and 14 others injured yesterday after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided at the corners of Main Reef and Westlake in Florida, west of Johannesburg.

Paramedics from the ER24 Johannesburg West branch, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the taxi lying on its side in the slipway while the light motor vehicle was found in the middle of the intersection.

Russel Meiring spokesperson for ER24 said one man was found lying lifeless inside the taxi.

“Assessments showed that the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene,” said Meiring.

On further inspection, paramedics found that 14 other patients were found on the scene, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

According to the SAPS, stats show that accidents on the Main Reef Road have been on increase during this year.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
