Aurora pupils sent back home due to Principal confusion, Zola

SGB angry over the appointment of a principal.

The School Governing Body (SGB) for Aurora Girls Secondary School closed the school gates on October 10 to demand that a school principal is appointed.

The appointment of the principal was supposed to be concluded early this year after the SGB conducted interviews. The ideal candidate Ernest Moloi was appointed by the SGB but has not been approved by the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU).

As a result the school has been without a stable principal since the former principal Motoe Maseloane retired for pension last year.

The SGB had appointed the vice principal Moloi to become new principal, but they were told that the scores sheet used to interview candidates was missing. The SGB decided to close the school gates after sending SMS’s to parents that the school will not be opening with the other schools on October 10.

The pupils waited outside with the hope to enter their school to learn after school holidays, but they were later sent home.
