JPAs host summer camp in Hammanskraal

Young passionate individuals mentored to be knowledgeable and informed leaders of tomorrow through educational camps.

The long awaited summer leadership camp for the Junior Perception Agents took place from September 30 to October 3 at the Nokeng Echo Lodge in Hammanskraal.

The camp was in response to the number of high school dropouts in the community.

70 JPAs were housed during this camp facilitated by the Lesego Tau Education Foundation.

It was aimed at taking them through a four-day life skills and study programme that tackled the following; understanding how to prioritise your education, studying methods, personal leadership and being resourceful as a young citizen.

According to Lesego Tau (foundation president) – the core objective of the summer leadership camp was to capacitate all JPAs on what is called train a trainer.

Those that were not able to participate in the camp will benefit from those that were trained and workshopped at the camp.

“It is the foundation’s view to have all JPAs impacting other young people at their respective schools and to make sure they lobby for all their schoolmates to graduate to the next grade,” he said.

The foundation has been pledging its service to propel youth involvement in the community.

JPAs who participated in the camp are from the communities of Dobsonville, Bramfischerville, Snake Park, Slovoville, Mofolo, and Meadowlands.

“Our communities need to have deliberations on mentorship and building a legacy. Everyone wants to harvest but not many are prepared to put in the extra work to mentor our youth to become true and fearless leaders in the community.

“We all want to live in a crime-free environment, yet so many of us always blame the law enforcement officers that they are failing the community, whilst you are seated and not even committed to helping people in the community,” said Tau.

The foundation is planning a graduation ceremony for all Junior Perception Agents come December 16.
