NEWLANDS – Two pedestrians killed in collision

Both declared dead on the scene when paramedics arrived.

A 13-year-old girl and man believed to be in his 30s were killed yesterday afternoon after they were hit by a car at the Long and 14th Road intersection in Newlands, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with Life Healthcare, arrived on the scene and found the young girl lying on the side of the road.

On assessment, paramedics found that the girl had already succumbed to her multiple fatal injuries.

Nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead on the scene.

Russel Meiring ER24 spokesperson said the vehicle had apparently crashed through the wall.

“The light motor vehicle and body of the man was found approximately 100 metres away in the complex.

“Paramedics found that the man had sustained numerous injuries, leaving him in a critical condition,” said Meiring.

ER24 and Life healthcare immediately began their treatment and provided the patient with advanced life support.

Unfortunately, after some time the man succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the light motor vehicle was assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries.

“The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” said Meiring.
