Clamping down on crime in Eldos

Anyone can become victims.

Police have confirmed that the suspect implicated in the shooting death of Earl ‘Lalu’ Schoeman, has handed himself over to police on September 21.

The suspect was taken into custody and appeared at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on the following day. Subsequent to his first court appearance, he was remanded to Johannesburg Central Prison.

Police spokesperson Phillemon Khorombi has confirmed a drive-by shooting incident which occurred on September 20.

According to Khorombi, the complainant was driving along John Scott Street in Extension Eight when a suspicious vehicle flickered its headlights at him.

He proceeded to drive along the same street when  the occupants of a silver Sports Utility Vehicle pulled up alongside him and started discharging a firearm.

The driver and the occupant of the vehicle being fired upon raced to the police station and lodged a case of attempted murder.

Two suspects were charged with theft out of a motor vehicle after being found in possession of screwdrivers and tools used in the theft.

Community members alerted police to the two suspects who had broken into the vehicle which was parked in Boundary Road near the clinic in Extension Eight.

Following this incident, Khorombi lauded the community for assisting with effective co-operation which has seen two offenders taken off the streets.
