Burst pipes now becoming a real health hazard, Westside

Residents have been raising their concerns about blocked sewage drains.

More and more residents in the Westside area have been complaining about blocked sewage drains in the area.

In this week’s Westside Newspaper Carmen Greef complained about the Frank Flats area becoming a health hazard for children.

“There has been numerous complaints about this blocked drain and the fact that it is becoming worse especially since we have been experiencing heat over the last couple of weeks.

“Our children cannot even play outside as it is so unhealthy,” said Greef.

In Steytler Street opposite the golf course driving range the waters have become stagnant and during Jeanine Keet’s recent clean-up programme she emphasized that something has to be done about it.

“The clean-up was successful but however it was very difficult cleaning in those conditions because of the extent of the pipes that are burst.

“The Waste Stops with Me project emphasizes the importance of saving water and preserving it but with the pipes not being fixed more water is instead being wasted,” said Keet.

A burst pipe has been leaking clean water for over four months but nothing has been done to fix the situation.

Below are some pictures showing the conditions of the area.
