Combating bullying in schools, Eldorado Park

Igniting positive change in primary schools.

According to statistics, 57 percent of children in Gauteng schools have experienced bullying in one form or the other.

These shocking statistics have inspired Anthony Nanchou to roll out a programme to public schools aimed at eradicating this problem.

About 1500 primary school pupils from three different schools have been through the programme since its launch earlier this year and principals are reporting behavioural changes among pupils.

Nanchou says, “I believe that your behaviour can shape your future. Our kids do not understand that  bullying can become a repeated aggressive behaviour towards someone else”.

“Our purpose is to help our primary school students realise that behaving negatively towards their peers is wrong and help them change their behaviour for the good, then not only will we ignite change in our primary schools, but also set off a chain for change in the years to come. These primary school pupils will then go to secondary school where they will influence positively and transform our secondary schools which will have a bigger impact on our community”.

The programme has been introduced in a number of primary schools in Eldorado Park, including Eldocrest Primary School,

Feed My Lambs and EW Hobbs Primary School.

Fouzia Davids, the principal at Eldocrest Primary School, shares her views in the programme in the accompanying video.
