Pupils from all grades get to eat at Makhoarane Primary School

Almost four years in existence, the kitchen still moving strong.

The kitchen at Makhoarane Primary School has been running for almost four years and ever since it was handed over, it has never shut down or experienced any irregularities.

Proud of the kitchen, acting principal Agnes Mnisi said the kitchen has been a success and that parents have applauded the work done by feeding pupils on a daily basis (five days a week).

Mnisi said three women have been hired on contract to do cooking and cleaning duties but most importantly keeping the kitchen in good shape.

“The children eat different kinds of food every day since the cooks use a menu.

“This kitchen, not only does it feed our children at the school but it has created employment for women whose children go here,” she said.

Another good gesture about the people working in the kitchen is that when there’s food remaining in the kitchen on a Friday, they make food parcels for the children.

One of the cooks, Malebakae Mokolanyane said: “I was delighted having been chosen to work at the school by the department.
“Even though it is a contract, I am thankful for the opportunity because the money I get makes a massive difference,” she said.
