Crime still ails Diepkloof even after campaigns

Robbery and assault victim can't open case.

Even though the SAPS has been suppressing crime and giving out pamphlets on safety tips, crime awareness and running anti-crime campaigns in various areas of Diepkloof like The Diepkloof Hostel and the taxi ranks the spokesperson for Diepkloof SAPS Captain Phephi Matlou still insists that people should be vigilant, never travel alone at night and never park in remote places or outside at night, after a series of robbery and hijacks have been reported to the station.

Sphiwe Makhubo from Diepkloof Zone Six sells ice and is unemployed, he managed to buy a second-hand Samsung S4 Phone from a friend on September 6 but the phone was reported stolen and tracked and found with Makhubo who said, “I will show the police where the guy who sold me the phone lives.”

Thulani Dlamini from Mzimhlophe was returning from work late on September 1 and had to connect taxis at Baragwanath Taxi Rank, but decided to withdraw money first at Standard Bank, he was carrying a school bag with a work laptop inside, one man grabbed the bag and pulled it, Dlamini held on to his bag but while they were still fighting for the bag, another man hit Dlamini with something from behind. He woke up bleeding later, and his laptop, wallet, phone and shoes were gone.

Dlamini was told to open a case in the police station nearest to where the robbery and assault took place, so he was in Diepkloof SAPS on September 7 to open a case but was told to acquire a doctor’s J88 form which will explain his injuries from the robbery and assault, the doctor told him he needs a case number first.

Dlamini said the doctor did examine him but still maintained that to fill his J88 form a case number is required.
