Drugs and condoms found in school

Sports to be used to redirect pupils.

Namedi High School has recently formed a partnership with the Vusi Ka Mhlanga foundation (VKMF) which now operates in the school and they want to promote sports in the school to shift the pupil’s focus from unacceptable behaviour.

The purpose of the partnership is to assist the school with its challenges, from the VKMF analysis they discovered that the school’s mid- year result had only 101 pupils pass their mid- year exams out of 813 pupils.

The foundation noticed problems such as substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, bullying, selling of drugs at school and truancy. Michael Tshabalala of the foundation said, “Above all the corruption we find in the school, we have discovered that these children need love and understanding.” In different occasions pupils are found with dagga and condoms in the school, the principal Thami Genge said, “After having a meeting with the SGB we decided to call the VKMF on board to help eradicate challenges.”

Genge said the school will introduce new sporting codes to redirect pupils to sports instead of drugs.
Karabo Mofokeng a pupil from the school once tried smoking and has not liked it, she said, “Our school is not the only school with the drug problem.”

Tshabalala said, “We want to expand our project to other schools.”
