A teacher’s selfless contribution is recognised by her community, Eldorado Park

Local teacher scoops runner-up award at Vita Basadi gala dinner.

The 2nd annual Vita Basadi awards ceremony was held at the Johannesburg City Hall last night. The awards recognise the outstanding and selfless contributions made by young and mature women in Gauteng in their respective communities.

Nominations are submitted by the public who recognise the impact nominees make through their unselfish and heroic actions.

Lorna de Villiers, teacher and mother figure to orphaned children in the community, serves on the Eldorado Park True Men’s Forum and has opened her home to abused women and children in the area.

She was nominated in the Outstanding Creative award category.

De Villiers teaches at Eldridge Primary school and juggles her teaching career by caring for victims of drug and alcohol abuse.

Amidst much fanfare and ululation from the assembled guests, she accepted the award, saying, “We do what we do not for accolades, but to make a tangible difference.”

“All the money in the world cannot compare to being recognised in this way.”
