Gauteng gets a clean audit for the first time in 13 years

Premier Deliver Audit

Gauteng departments have received an unqualified audit status of the first time in 13 years of governance.

This was reported after Gauteng premier David Makhura and his team visited Soweto Theatre to deliver the Gauteng audit report on the 2015/16 financial year.

Out of 33 departments, seven provincial and 13 public departments received clean audits which mean that their financial statements were free from material misstatements and there were no findings on compliance with key law and regulations.

Of the remaining departments, 13 provincial and public departments received an unqualified audit status which means the auditor’s endorsement of the accuracy and adequacy of the disclosed information and of the department’s financial picture was presented.

Other key areas that were addressed was the progress in implementing the new open tender process that has been introduced in all departments.

“This open tender system is aimed at reducing the red-tape on the tender process by up to 15 days.

“Previously the turn-over rate of procuring payment would be around 30 days and that would delay the overall progress on projects, so by reducing the red-tape on payments, we would be improving on delivery on services.

“This will assist us eliminate irregular expenditure and enforce compliance with supply chain regulations,” said Makhura.
