Young woman through to finals

Jeanine Keet from Westbury through to National finals.

Jeanine Keet from Westbury has made it through as a national finalist in the Miss Earth South Africa competition respectively.
Previously the Miss Earth South Africa Regional Finalists came together at Tsogo Sun Gold Reef City Theme Park in Johannesburg.
Ella Bella Constantinides director of the Miss Earth South Africa said they workshopped and engaged in green activities across the city.
“The participants took part in an experiential tour of the Pikitup Southdale Depot so as to allow for a deeper understanding of waste and the journey of waste,” said Constantinides.
The Miss Earth South Africa campaign for 2016 is #WasteStopsWithME.
The objective is to create an understanding of the problem and to highlight the importance of each individual’s impact.
This was followed by a tour of Johannesburg CBD, where the team were able to see hijacked buildings, illegal dumping, informal recycling depots and the challenges of waste.
The story of informal pickers, landfill space and water contamination were all issues that were unpacked and discussed.

“Empowering these young women to be ambassadors in the waste sector.
“The programme included Yoga sessions by Lorna Jane, a workshop by Edith Venter on the attributes of a brand ambassador,” said Constantinides.

Finance and the management of money was address by Thabo Hollo from Nedbank, and the finalists were given a basic understanding of what planning they should be doing as young women.
“We have to create a balance in our young women.
“We want them to understand wellness, finance and the environment while balancing their EQ with their IQ,” said Constantinides.
The finalists have rolled out several educational waste campaigns and community clean ups, they came together to share their stories and experiences.
Keet so far rolled out her waste project at Newclare Primary School, teaching children about waste and recycling.
She is the founder of a charity organization called JustLove where they do various projects for old age homes, orphanages and people who are less fortunate.
She then also organised a clean- up campaign in Steytler Street and will be hosting another clean- up campaign at Hamilton and Dowling Street Flats in Newclare.

Jeanine is very passionate about people and wishes to help them where she can.
“Through this journey I have grown tremendously and it has all been through the grace of God.
“Sowing a seed of love and green knowledge, knowing that it is contagious and the ripple effect will soon flow and reach many more,” said Keet.
The clean- up will be starting at 10 am.
