WestburyShootings – No march yet but more shootings

Two shot last night and one injured

While residents are worried about a march that is “supposedly” to taking place today by unknown residents, the shooting still continues.

Last night two men were shot in Newclare at Aletta Flats in Davey Road. The two men were identified by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) as Vaughan Paulsen and Levert Booysens.

Colonel Julia Claassen said they are happy because at least one positive arrest was made.

  • “We believe we have caught one suspect who was involved in these whole events surrounding the shootings.

  • “Anyone with other information should not be scared but come forward so that the situation can be resolved,” said Claassen.

Claassen also commented on the march saying that if residents want to march then they should do so legally.

“There are procedures to follow and if the residents want to take action then they should apply legally.

“Any community marches towards positivity have our support,” said Claassen.

One resident Shantel Le Roux feels otherwise saying one arrest does not make a difference.

“One arrest does not do it and it won’t stop the shooting.

“Police should stop boasting about one arrest but rather close down the drug hotspots that are causing this problem,” said Le Roux.

Organisers of the march have still not come forward but residents from Westbury are speculating that a meeting will be held today to discuss this event.
