Massive “Stay Away” is now underway in Westbury

The march follows the recent shooting events that have gripped the community

A massive “stay away” march underway in Westbury with hundreds of residents turning up to show their support.

Working parents and school children have all been asked to stay at home for this march.

The march is to create awareness around the issues of the recent shootings in the area that have injured over 10 people thus over the past four weeks.

Police from the local Sophiatown Police Station

, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Local Drug Action Committees, residents and community stakeholders have all joined in the strike.

One participant Dominique Du Toit said they hope the march brings about change.

“We are doing for our children and people from all over the area must stand up and fight for their community,” said Du Toit.

Residents will be handing over a memorandum at the local police station.
