Over a thousand new police recruits

A new wave of trained police constables are ready to tackle crime.

2317 police constables will be deployed at police stations throughout the country. This comes after 1926 police constables finished off their training at a ceremony held at the Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone, Western Cape.

They were followed by another 1715 recruits that completed training in Pretoria on July 28, bringing the total number to 3641.These recruits had completed their field training at police stations countrywide.

They will be followed by another reinforcement of a group of other students in December 2016. Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Lungelo Dlamini said 1324 constables will be placed in the Western Cape to address the current policing challenges in that province.

Dlamini said improving police visibility and response when attending to complaints is very much essential.

“We are confident that our new officers are well trained, ready to serve and protect all in South Africa.

“The policing skills imparted to them by our seasoned trainers are essential as police station based officers are the community’s first line of defence and often the first to arrive at crime scenes,” said Dlamini.

The recruits, among others, received training in basic public order policing, preservation of a crime scene, statement taking, and general interviewing skills as part of preliminary investigation towards solving a crime.
