Incase you missed it! Mashaba believes elections will be free and fair

DA not leaving everything entirely to the IEC.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba has expressed his confidence in the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for running free and fair Municipal elections.

Mashaba made these remarks on Tuesday morning during his visit to one of the voting stations in Orlando East.

“As the DA we believe and we really hope that we are going to have free and fair elections,” said Mashaba.

He added that it was important not to leave everything to the IEC but make sure that observers are deployed in every polling station.

Only 13 people had registered for special votes at the station Mashaba visited.

78 993 voters in Gauteng had registered for special votes at this year’s Municipal Elections. No incidents were reported in Soweto on the two days allocated for special votes.

No voting station was reported to have been opened later than the official opening time which was 8:00am.

Election officials spent most of the first day of the special vote on home visits to assist those who could not make it to their voting stations.

Politicians and candidates used the two days allocated for special votes to cast theirs so that they get enough time to lobby for support on Election Day.
