Elections bring no hope for homeless Pensioner in Pimville

Molemohi has been pleading with the government for a house since 2006.

A Pimville Zone Two pensioner has lost hope of ever getting a decent roof over her head. Her deteriorating health has confined her to bed in her one-room shack and the situation seems to be going from bad to worse for her.

Mathato Molemohi first shared her story of desperation for an RDP house in July last year. More than a year later, nothing has changed and she is still bed ridden in a one-room shack she and her five grandchildren call home.

“I have repeatedly visited the housing department and explained to them my condition. They said mine is a special case because of my state of health but since then I have not received any response from them,” said Molemohi more than a year ago.

Molemohi’s living conditions and not getting a house has caused her stress which has had a negative impact on her health.

As a result, she has been in and out of the hospital since 2010. It becomes difficult when it’s raining because everything in her shack gets soaked in water.

Vusi Shongwe, Ward councilor, was asked for help but nothing has come out of it.

“She is still under special cases and we are working on getting her a house in the lufereng Housing Project.

“We thought she would be in her new house by now but there was a delay with the contractor who is building the houses,” said Shongwe.

He said he had been busy with the elections and promised to update the Molemohi family on the progress soon.

While Molemohi continues to wait for updates from her ward councilor, her health keeps deteriorating in that one room shack she calls home.
