Election day kicked off n a high note this morning with hundreds of voters braving the cold morning weather and made their way to their polling stations.
More than 500 people had voted at 10:00am at the two stations which cater for Nancefield Hostel and Malahleni informal settlement in Soweto.
One station opened at 7:00am while the other one opened at 7:30am due to the late arrival of stationery according to hostel authorities.
“People are showing enthusiasm about casting their votes today. Everything is going smooth, there is tolerance amongst political parties and everyone is cooperating with IEC officials,” said hostel induna Thisha Shange.
While more than 500 people had voted within the first three hours of voting, it was business as usual for some hostel dwellers who were going about their everyday chores.
Shange was not happy about the youth turnout but was hopefully that as the day goes they will see more young people coming in cast their votes.
