Maintaining a standard for Diepkloof Community Hall.

The project empowers and upskills young people.

The Diepkloof Community Hall has gone through maintenance under the City Of Johannesburg Community Development (COJComdev), which is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the city’s sports, recreation, libraries and other community facilities.

The supervisor of the project is Molefe Loboa from Diepkloof, he said, “The aim of the project is to empower the youth and upskill them with a variety of skills to combat unemployment.”

According to Leboa the project was certified by Duduzile Maseko, the Executive Director for the Community Development Department.

Maseko said, “Young people need to cultivate a positive attitude.”

Ingrid Mokoena is the assistant in training for the community hall which has free WiFi and many other communities serving and empowering services like the Baking School and the Elderly Citizen’s Club. Mokoena said, “I am impressed by how the COJ accepts and works with disabled people.”

The project has given employment to approximately 27 people, mostly from Diepkloof and Orlando, according to Leboa.

Lulama Phosiso from Diepkloof Zone five is one of the young people who are working under the Comdev project, she said,”It is a good initiative for our local community halls to stay maintained while offering the youth of that community the job opportunities.”

Phosiso said the project has even given her and her colleagues the skills of painting and performing other duties like gardening.

Thabang Bhanda from zone four said, “The project has given me experience, and we would like to see more of these so young people would work.”
