Pimville Primary goes digital

MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative benefits one of the oldest schools in Soweto.

Pimville Primary School officially went digital this Mandela Month. Thanks to the MTN annual employee volunteer programme called 21 Days of Y’ello Care, the school received an interactive whiteboard.

The new digital classroom will help bring the oldest school in Soweto a step closer to the world of e-learning.

Pimville primary has been a beneficiary of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative for two years in a row now.

Last year the initiative benefited the school with a library equipped with an interactive whiteboard as well.

MTN executive for corporate affairs Chris Maroleng said the handover of the digital classroom was about celebrating the hard work and dedication MTN employees have put in during the 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.

“Going forward quality education will increasingly be about incorporating digital tools and platforms into our teaching and learning.

“At MTN, we believe that technology is an enabler to levelling the playing field, particularly in education, because what it means is that our pupils no longer have to be reliant on textbooks or brick and mortar structures to gain knowledge. We are honoured to be able to facilitate this at Pimville primary,” said Maroleng.

MTN employees dedicated their time and got their hands dirty refurbishing the classroom and installing the interactive whiteboard.

The day of the handover was deliberate as it coincided with Mandela Day activities.

Pimville Primary School Principal, Edgar Moola has welcomed the donation and thanked MTN for investing in the education of township pupils.

“When this initiative began it gave us much pleasure to learn that there are people out there who are willing to make a difference in the education system. When MTN decided that Pimville would be a beneficiary of their 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative, it initially appeared to be a small gesture.

“However, looking at the outcomes I feel very proud, as the principal of this school. We are transforming to offer digital education to ensure that our children learn in a smart way. We thank MTN,” said Moola.
