Community vandalism cost government money – representative

Residents to be punished for vandalism.

Chiawelo Ward 11 environment representative Mandla Mashele said they are concerned about the vandalism in his ward and urge other residents to play their role.

“There have been a lot of vandalism in our area and we want people responsible to stop that and focuses on helping us develop our area instead of being against us.

“Some of the street lights have been vandalised and now the new mini park that was an illegal dumping spot have also been vandalised and all the tires that we used to decorate it have been stolen.”

Mashele said: “All the developments that we do in our ward is to beautify our area and make it safe and healthy for everyone living in it and visiting.”

Mpho Manganyi, 32-years-old resident said: “We would love to volunteer and guard our area for safety, but once we try to do that, we become the target and get threatened every day and that put our lives and that of our families at risk.

“So if our leaders can do or make a plan about our safety then we will continue supporting them and volunteering and protect all the community development structures with no fears”

Mashele said: “We have a great support from police and JMPD so people if are interested in helping to volunteer they are very much welcome to do so with no fear.

“Residents are also urged to visit our office and check on any development project that they can volunteer at.
