A protest in the Zamimpillo Informal Settlement has caused havoc on the roads in Riverlea and Industria.
According to a resident from Riverlea the protest started at approximately 3.30am and is still currently underway.
One of the protestors said that they want houses and are tired of empty promises.
“We will not stop until we get what we want.
“Our electricity has been cut because it is illegally connected but what can we do if our basic needs are not met,” he said.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department are on scene and have directed the oncoming traffic in Commando to different paths because Main Reef Road has totally been closed down by the protest.
Pedestrians are also advised to use the road carefully as the protestors have weapons accompanying them.
