Parents and teachers respond to Little Achievers saga

Crèche teachers and parents are saying the principal must go.

Parents responded to the recent situation revolving around the eviction notice given to Little Achievers Crèche.

The crèche was given notice two weeks ago by the Johannesburg Property Company following the approval of refurbishments that will start later in July.

The crèche will be handed over to the project managers by July 15 so that construction can start, but unfortunately in a meeting held at the crèche with parents, teachers and community stakeholders last week Wednesday, they were informed only a week ago to find alternative space for their children.

In a statement released by the City of Johannesburg Social Development Department last week, the principal of the crèche was informed a year ago to find alternative accommodation but parents were given until June 30 to find alternative crèches for their children.

The statement also said that three meetings were held to discuss the situation but with no real outcome by the crèche.

Parents, however, are blaming the principal for communication problems with some teachers saying that she is not honest because they have not been informed accordingly and also encounter numerous problems with salary payments.

One teacher Manana Polori said they are tired of her dishonesty and want her out.

“We have families to look after and debt to pay but cannot pay these amounts because we receive our salaries late and recently we have not even received all of it.

“The principal has been very dishonest with us and this has led to us not knowing where we will be going to or if we will still have jobs,” said Polori.

Parents and other community stakeholders have approached different centres in Westside for alternative accommodation for the children.

One parent who does not want to be named said once the crèche is up and running again then the principal should be changed.

“We want one of the dedicated teachers to become principal as we are the paying parents and have not seen any development in the crèche since the principal has been there.

“We will approach all options self and find a location for the crèche until the refurbishment is done because we are not sure what will happen to our children especially the ones starting school next year,” she said.

The parents have also approached Family Worship Centre in Hursthill and are awaiting a response from the management.
