New bridge unveiled in Westbury

The new Westbury Pedestrian was unveiled on Monday.

The New Westbury Pedestrian Bridge at the Westbury Park in Westbury went up officially on Monday.

The bridge which has an allocated budget of over R50 million is under the Westbury Precinct Plan and according to the plan its deadline is stipulated to be later this year.

This project is called the Fuel Street Precinct (Area 4) consisting of:

  • Construction of a pedestrian crossing in Fuel Road
  • Upgrade and enhance existing park on Fuel Road

Residents welcomed the new bridge saying that it will benefit the children more especially in the community.

One resident Bridgette Greef said it will be very beneficial.

“We have been worried all the time about the safety of our children and this bridge has now put us at ease when referring to the safe crossing for pupils.

“Children were at risk of being bumped every day when going to school but not it will be much safer,” said Greef.

Workers from the tendering company Kingsway Construction worked at night to get the bridge up.
