Robber gets 15 years

Kliptown police secure another victory in their fight against crime

Retshidisiswe “Subelle” Rasithuntswa was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Palm Ridge High Court for murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The sentence was handed down on June 15. Rasithuntswa was accused of stabbing and killing a man before robbing him of his cash, takkies, and his car.

The incident happened in Chicken Farm informal settlements in Kliptown in January last year. One Kliptown resident made a gruesome discovery of a body of a man with stab wounds on his way to the outside toilet on the night of January 25 last year.

Police were alerted to the discovery and they immediately launched an investigation. On February 2 a 34-year-old man approached the Kliptown police and confessed to being on the scene when Rasithuntswa stabbed a man to death at Chicken Farm.

“The man reported that on the day of the incident he was in a tavern in Pimville Zone Two when Rasithuntswa whom he had known briefly, came and asked him to accompany him to a petrol station nearby to fill the car with petrol.

“They got into a Maroon Volvo which was driven by another man unknown to him. Once they were done at the petrol station, Rasithuntswa asked the driver to drive to Chicken Farm and he complied,” said constable Ngwenya.

When they got to Chicken Farm, that’s when Rasithuntswa started stabbing the driver on the upper body with an unknown object.

They took his personal belongings and drove away with his car leaving him to die on the side of the street.

Ngwenya said, “The investigation started by tracing all the places Rasithuntswa had visited with the deceased’s vehicle.

“The car was recovered in Sebokeng and Rasithuntswa was later arrested.”

The investigating team from the Kliptown Police Station thanks, everyone who assisted them in their investigation.
