Crime hotspots becoming a concern for residents in Westside.

Hotspots for robberies and crime have become a major concern for residents living in the Westside area. Here are some of the hotspots for residents to look out for:

Westbury- corner Steytler and Fuel Road opposite Rahima Moosa armed robberies and assaults

have increased in this space.

Westbury Open and Oval grounds are also dangerous early in the morning as numerous residents

have been complaining of early robberies and assaults.

Last month a man was hanged in the grounds in the early hours of the morning.

 

Bosmont:

An open field next to Simonsberg Street- robberies and even kidnaps occur here.

Corner Hay and Fuel Road- This happens’ in the street- armed robberies and assaults.

Teenagers always wait for University of Johannesburg students to come from university and they are first targets.

 

 

In Riverlea behind Ashburton Street in Beauly Street at the passage near the swimming pool.

Residents have been complaining of constant robberies in that area.

Last week a school boy was held up in that street at knife point and robbed of his phone in that street and the perpetrators ran through the passage according to a resident.

 

 

Waterval Newlands – Next to the police station, there is an abandoned open field next to the station filled with trees and bushes- armed robberies by drug users.

 

 

Claremont- Behind a bakery called Nono’s Bakery- quiet area and in the past even murders occurs here.

 

 

Toby Street in Sophiatown- according to statistics by Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch gate house burglaries and stealing of outdoor house hold products.

TDC Building opposite the main road, corner Main, and Florida Street.

 

 

In Newclare we have the train station and the Westbury train station, corner Hamilton and Pollock and lastly Kathrada Park near Claremont at the informal settlement.
