Police launch manhunt after business robbery

‘Delivery’ guys rob Telkom store

Kliptown police are investigating a case of business robbery which took place at a Telkom shop at Maponya Mall on Wednesday last week.

An undisclosed number of cellphones and tablets were taken during the robbery. According to police reports, two men pushing a shopping trolley with a big brown box walked in to the shop pretending to be working for a delivery company.

“They went to the storeroom with their box where they found the manager. One man pointed a gun to the manager while the other one was busy loading cellphones to the box,” said constable Thuli Ngwenya.

Once they were done loading the goods in the box and a carrier bag, they fled the scene on foot.

One of the store employees followed them on their way out of the mall and screamed for help.

Mall security personnel responded and managed to catch one of the men while the other one managed to get away.

The getaway car was a yellow Mini Cooper with no registration. Some of the stolen cellphones, a firearm with no serial number and ammunition were recovered when one of the men was arrested.

Police are continuing with their investigation and the second man is still at large.
