Thugs hi-jack a cop

Service pistol is missing.

On Sunday evening a local police officer was hijacked by two thugs in Soweto, Jabavu. The police officer who asked to not be named because of security purposes said, “I was not sure whether the thugs knew that I was a police officer or not.”

The two thugs found the private car parked with the cop and an acquaintance inside. They hijacked the car with the two people inside and drove around for a while before they let them both go.

According to gunpolicy.org it is estimated that there are six million guns in South Africa, roughly 12 for every 100 people.

The law allows an ordinary citizen to possess four guns. The military is estimated to have about 350000 guns and the police about 260 000. These statistics exclude illegal firearms.

The conversation.com has published that “The Police statistics in South Africa show a worrying trend: the increased use of illegal small arms and light weapons in the country’s growing problem of violent crime.

It is still unclear whether the Police was targeted because of his service pistol or whether it was just a random hijack.

The private car that was hijacked by the two thugs was later returned by the anti hijacking company, but the service pistol is still missing.

The cop is under investigation.
