Newclare Train Station in terrible condition

Residents worried about their safety, ward councillor speaks out.

Situation at Newclare Train Station is getting worse and residents around the Reconstruction Development Programme (RDP) houses are living in fear.

Here are a few problems that have not been attended to at the station:

Ward 82 councillor Susan Stewart said that she has forwarded complains and concerns to Passenger Railway Association South Africa (PRASA) with no real response from them.

The wall that was built at Bosmont Station has now collapsed as well.

“I appealed to PRASA that more budget be sourced to complete the wall on the other side along Price Street on the one side and Hoy Street on the other where the fence is also dilapidated and needs to be repaired so the wall can be completed.

“The residents in my ward are holding me accountable for what is clearly PRASA’s responsibility.

“They have a mandate to not only maintain the railway lines but also to ensure that the wall that was erected is properly and efficiently repaired and that ongoing maintenance is done,” said Stewart.

There has been no response from PRASA currently.
