Protea Glen Secondary honours Miss SA

Miss SA 2016 inspiring the learners of Protea Glen Secondary to put education first above all else.

Protea Glen Secondary (PGS) welcomed Miss South Africa 2016, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, with the national anthem when she gracefully walked for a honourary ceremony recently.

Mr Sepadi Choeu, chief executive officer of Nelson Mandela Library and the school said “We are here to support the school to offer quality education, we support different departments at the school, and part of it is to get role models to inspire them to understand the importance of education”.

The purpose of the initiative was to set an example for the learners as the reigning queen has two qualifications, prior her title, and she has had to work hard to get where she is today regardless her circumstances.

Miss SA, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene said in her address,” We are young men and women who can make a difference, one of my ambitions was to be Miss SA, and I made it and I’m saying we all have dreams, so set your goals and work towards them, my favourite quote is by Nelson Mandela, which says, ‘Education is the most NB weapon you can use to change the world’, I live by that and so should you.”

The school presented Miss SA with a certificate and a trophy to thank her for her presence and her contribution to motivating the learners towards their education and for being the ambassador of the rainbow nation; a program known to honour women identified by the school who are contributing to society positively, such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Jessica Motuang to name a few.

PGS has given education a priority especially, through the Nelson Mandela Library situated in the school.

The school currently boasting a pass rate of 82% is promoting the importance of science, mathematics and technology subjects, and is striving to make it an exemplary school in the townships.

Kunene said, “I’d like to thank the school for inviting me here today, I’m happy to be here to be part of this special occasion.”

“Protea Glen symbolises success and future leaders, we thank you for your good work, and we have no doubt that you will make this school one of the best schools here,” said Choeu to the cheering learners.
