Color Run wants to use local service providers

The Color Run to employ at least 20 locals for the week of set-up and break-down.

Why ethical events are the way of the future

Excitement is in the air as The Color Run makes its debut in Soweto on April 17.

And there is much more to the original paint race than simply color, fun, and festivities.

The Color Run came to South Africa about four years ago.

It was started in the USA and has spread throughout the world.

The local event organiser SportsVendo, believes in the brand’s objectives of uplifting communities while providing joy.

There are numerous charitable elements woven into The Color Run’s character – among these are choosing sponsors that share the brand’s passion for change; encouraging participants to embark on their own fund raising campaigns (through the “Fun Raiser” programme), and, as far as possible, engaging with only local vendors for each and every event.

Event co-ordinator Craig McLennan, is ensuring that vendors are selected from Soweto’s pool of service providers.

“It’s extremely important to The Color Run that we invest in local communities. We believe that business and community should be linked, with both having a profoundly positive impact on each other.”

Additionally, says McLennan, The Color Run has engaged with a local college and local running clubs to ensure that volunteers at the event come from students studying sports management and enthusiasts.

“We want to give young people and learners experience in the field of sporting events. This will provide them with not only invaluable experience, but also assists The Color Run in our community building endeavours.”

The event is creating in the region of 20 casual jobs for the week of set-up and build-up, as well as break-down.

Again, these employees are sourced from within the community.
